When selecting a motor, consider its voltage, power requirements (AC or DC), duty cycle (continuous vs. intermittent use), efficiency, enclosure rating, and torque. Other crucial factors include the motor's speed, starting torque, and the specific application it's intended for.

Determine if you need an AC (Alternating Current) or DC (Direct Current) motor based on your power source and application. For AC motors, consider if you need a single-phase or three-phase motor, depending on your power requirements. Ensure the motor's voltage rating matches the power supply you have available. Consider the motor's full-load amperage and stall current, which can impact performance and potential damage. Choose a motor that can provide the required RPM (rotations per minute) for your application. Consider the motor's starting torque and its ability to provide the necessary force for the load.

Determine if the motor will be used continuously or intermittently. This affects the motor's lifespan and suitability for the application.  Efficiency of the motor, higher efficiency means less energy waste and lower operating costs. Choose an enclosure rating appropriate for the environment where the motor will be installed (e.g., protection from dust, water, etc.).

Pro Tip: Frame size and mounting: Ensure the motor's physical dimensions and mounting position fit your application. Consider the motor's expected lifespan and maintenance requirements. Extreme temperatures can affect motor performance and longevity. If noise is a concern, look for low-noise motor options. While cost is a factor, don't sacrifice quality for price, as a cheaper motor may have a higher risk of failure.

Be careful considering these factors, choose the right motor for your specific needs and application. Here at Arlington – All of our motors go through rigorous testing to ensure they are E-OK unless otherwise stated on a case-by-case basis in the listing.

We use the AT34 Motor Condition Monitor in our warehouse to keep our motors running efficiently. To e-check a motor, we simply connect the device to the motor and within minutes, we know important details about the motor's health, such as any signs of wear, irregularities, or potential issues. This allows us to catch problems early and schedule maintenance before bigger failures occur, saving both time and costs. Rest assured that any motor you buy through us has been rigorously tested to industry standards.
