Cyclones are designed to capture dust, fines (small particles) and even fibrous materials generated during plastic handling, shredding and conveying. By removing these particles cyclones prevent clogging and damage to filters in subsequent filtration systems like baghouses. This extends the life of those filters and reduces maintenance costs. Removing airborne dust and particulates means cleaner air, healthier and safer workers.
They also remove dust, dirt, paper labels or metals from shredded plastic flakes. A cleaner processing environment and removing contaminants means better quality recycled plastic that meets industry standards. Cyclone separation can separate smaller plastic items that would otherwise be lost during the sorting process.
Cyclones work by creating a cyclonic (spinning) motion in a cylindrical chamber. As dust laden air or gas enters tangentially, centrifugal force throws heavier particles against the walls and they lose velocity and fall to the bottom hopper for collection. Lighter, cleaner air exits through the top outlet. We have new Sterling Cyclones in stock now, so Contact Us today!
