Plastic profile embossers are used to produce a texture or embossing on plastic profile items. Sometimes the texture is used for its mechanical properties. A grove or grooves can be placed in a piece of decking to make the surface safer and less slippery. In many cases, however, the purpose of the embossed product is for aesthetics. A plastic board with a faux-wood grain is more pleasing to the eye than a plain board. The embosser is usually placed in the extrusion line at a point where the profile piece is not completed cured and the textured roll can leave an impression that will remain. The embossing unit consists of two rollers that the item passes through.
Typical manufacturers include: CDS, RDN and Conair.
